Why motorcycle accidents are more dangerous than cars

On Behalf of | Jan 8, 2025 | Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle accidents result in more severe injuries than car accidents, but why? Several factors contribute to this alarming fact. Yet, it is reality, and the best thing you can do—if you ride one—is to know why they are so dangerous and so you can prevent them as much as you can.

Foremost, because of the severity of these crashes, even protective gear cannot fully protect you if you are in a motorcycle accident. Nothing can. Motorcycles lack any sort of protective structure, leaving them fully exposed and with little to no buffer—a car or truck—and the impact hits can easily be fatal.

Loss of control

Companies use various methods to produce motorcycles. However, they are not cars. They are inherently less stable than a car, which makes the motorcycle driver more susceptible to losing control while driving, especially in adverse weather. If you can, stay off the roads in bad weather.

Visibility

It is possible that the driver of a car does not see the motorcycle. And they may not see you. While you might think that all the cars surrounding you can see each other, that is untrue. Compared to a car, especially a large car, one can accidentally not see a motorcycle and hit it.

Impact

Motorcycles do not have airbags, which makes riders substantially more prone to being thrown from the bike in an accident. Even if they wear helmets, their bodies will probably have a significant impact after being thrown off the bike.

If you or someone you know has been involved in a motorcycle accident, seek medical attention, gather all evidence, and call your attorney.
